The topography of the area is flat with vast areas outside the city void of wooded areas mainly because of the oilfields and farming.

Dongying was founded in 1983 and is centred on the Shengli Oilfields. With a population of 2.4 million, it falls into the small city category in China. Even so

Dongying has a little of everything to satisfy most needs and wants.

 

The city is divided into West city and East city. West city primarily falls under the jurisdiction of the Shengli Oil Company, while East City is the territory of the local government.

West city is the larger of the two regions. The main area of interest occupies a rectangular area, with the main road (Jinan Road) dividing it into the north side and south. Within this area are the main shopping district, restaurants and hotels. There are numerous restaurants in Dongying catering for most tastes. The styles of food available are numerous with mainly Northern cuisine been the most numerous. However southern and western cuisine restaurants are here as well. 

Western food is available at some hotels and coffee shops,such as daming hotel,dongsheng hotel,B.U.T cafe'. Of course there are the fast food restaurants such as KFC and McDonalds. It is a good city to live and work in. With its close proximity to Beijing and coastal gems like Weihai, Qingdao and Yantai, travel to and from is easy and inexpensive. Dongying is an ideal place to live and learn Chinese, while breathing in the Chinese culture.

JOB DESCRIPTION

 

Job Title:       Senior Teacher (ST)

 

Reporting to: Academic Manager (AM) or School Manager (SM)

 

General Responsibilities:

 

The ST is assigned to a particular school so as to provide within that school support to the AM/SM in the supervising and development of teachers, particularly less experienced teachers in the managing of course materials and records; and in assisting the School Manager (SM) in, and advising her on, promotional, student counselling, and course related matters.

 

Specific Responsibilities:

 

The ST will carry out the full range of duties of a teacher in addition to the specific responsibilities and duties of a ST, with the exception that the ST’s regular teaching hours (this excludes level checking and placement of new students and/or giving demonstration lessons) will be recommended to a maximum of  (4) hours on each teaching day at the school of which s/he is ST.  Duties as a ST will involve all factors related to the General Responsibilities outlined above and will include, but not necessarily be limited to:

 

-          Observations of new teachers within the school, and being available for follow-up discussion regarding these observations

-          Advising new and less experienced teachers on such teaching and course related problems as they might have.

-          Being observed by other teachers working in the school and being available for follow-up discussion regarding these observations

-          Participation in the company’s sales and promotional efforts, particularly through assisting in the organisation of school social events, and being the main teacher involved in both attendance at school open days and in the carrying out of demonstration lessons

-          Proffering advice to the SM, especially with regard to teachers and courses

-          Within established guidelines, and in consultation with the AM as necessary, assisting teachers and the SM to decide on appropriate course materials for each class

-          Counselling and advising students on their studies and answering student queries and problems

-          Managing teaching resources in the school (i.e. checking resources and texts are all in place and in good condition and reporting to the AM on the need for replacements as necessary). 

-          Checking that student and class records are in place, are being regularly completed and are up-to-date

-          Ensuring teachers behave in a professional manner in the school

-    To support SM in achieving school MOs particularly with respect to Sign-up rates, Demonstration sign-up rates, group and class sizes.

-          To provide a completed monthly report to AM regarding completion of above

tasks

-          To support the AM in the ‘settling in’ of new teachers in a ‘mentor’ type role, providing advice and help in teaching, school related and any pastoral matters.

MOTHLY SALARY月工资

OVERTIME加班费
 
Overtime is paid if more than 6 teaching hours one day at 300% or if shift time exceeds 8hrs (not including meals, which may be 1 hr or 2 hr dependent on individual school policy, and rest time).
N.B. Overtime payment is not due if schedule constitutes a ‘split shift’ (i.e. if the meal or rest time between lessons is more than two hours) – but these are to be avoided wherever possible.
如果外籍教师在一天里累计课时超过6小时或工作时间跨度超过8小时(不包括地方学校规定的1或2小时的午饭时间和中间的课休时间),超过的部分为加班,按该外教的单位小时工资的3倍为每小时加班费支付:月工资÷80小时x300%。

No sick pay (Time missed due to sickness or for compassionate reasons will be considered as unpaid leave and proportional deductions from salary will be made accordingly. For each day of work missed, and subject to the School being satisfied of the genuine reasons for the absence, the target hours required to be worked will be reduced by the number of teaching hours missed on the day.
由于教师生病或其他非正常休假都将作为非带薪缺席,相应地费用将在工资中扣除(同时将缺席课时从目标课时中减去)。在学校同意教师请假要求下,该外教在这天中缺席的课将按照教师单位小时工资计算扣除,相应地在当月目标课时(80小时)也应减去。
 
EXTRA PAYMENT 其他报酬
 
Any hrs taught over 80 hrs* in a calendar month are credited towards extra payment (paid at the teacher’s hourly rate: salary ÷ 80). This extra payment will be paid monthly
如果外籍教师在一个月里的累计课时超过80小时,超过的部分为奖金(每超过一小时按该外教的单位小时工资:月工资÷80小时支付)。该奖金按月发放。
 
N.B. This is a performance-linked bonus and is not to be confused with overtime.
*This figure will be reduced proportionally for months containing national holidays, with 4 hours being deducted from the 80 for each national holiday (not including holidays coinciding with the teacher’s days off).

ACCOMMODATION
We can provide free apartment, but you should accept living with other foreign teachers. If you are not satisfied with the apartment we provide for you,you can choose the apartment you like. Apartment usually have TV, washing machine, refrigerator, shower, stove, sofa, bed, bathroom, kitchen and two or three bedrooms. If new teacher do not have enough money to pay the whole year's rent and deposit to the landlord, school can pay for the 12 months rent upfront,and deduct money directly from your salary over 10 months.The deposit will be refund only after the completion of teacher's accommodation contract,minus deductions for missing or damaged items or for any additional cleaning or repair charges that may be incurred,The price in Dongying is about 1200rmb/month.Not including water,electricity ,gas ,heating,TV or management fees.Internet access must pay by the month or year.
我校可以提供免费住宿,但是外教必须接受能够和其他的外教合住。如果外教不满意我们为其提供的住宿条件,我校外方人事可以为其找到一个外教喜欢的房屋。一般情况下房内含有电视、冰箱、洗衣机、热水器、炉灶、沙发、床、住房、卫生间和两三个卧室。如果新外教没有足够的钱付房屋租金和押金的话,学校可以先行垫付,但是需要从外教超过八个月的工资中扣除。押金在房屋合同完成以后,如室内物品没有损坏,将返还押金给外教。房屋居住期间所产生的水、电、气、暖、物业、网线,有线电视费由外教自己支付。
Foreign teachers housing bonus
住房补贴:
1.School can provide free apartment, but you should accept living with other foreign teachers, foreign teachers should pay the deposit and promise don't damage anything in apartment and not owe water, electricity, gas, heating, TV and management fees.
2.The school can pay the renting and deposit as loan to foreign teacher if he/she choose to housing by self. When you finish your one year contract, you will get 5000RMB(second year is 8000RMB) as the house allowance. Guangrao school and Hekou School will have another 500RMB or 360RMB a month when you rent the apartment by yourself according to the house condition.
1.学校可以提供免费住宿,但是外教必须接受能够和其他外教合住,外教必须缴纳押金必须保证不会对房间的物品产生损坏,并保证不会欠居住期间所产生的水、电、气、暖、物业、网线,有线电视费等。
2.如果外教自己选择出去租房,当完成第一年的时候会返还5000元(第二年8000)作为外教的房屋补贴。广饶校和河口校在外教租房的时候会提供360元、500元每月的房屋补贴。
 
Single flight paid (up to 4200RMB) (1st year in China only). Teacher must submit flight ticket and receipt on arrival.
单程机票(最高4200元)(此条款针对第一年来中国任职的外教)。外教在抵达后应提供机票或机票发票。
 
Total amount due on completion of contract but ½ after 6 months. Repayable if does not complete contract.
机票费用将于半年(6个月)支付一半的方式支付给教师,另一半待合同结束时支付。
如果外教没有履行完一年合同的,离职前学校有权扣回已支付的机票费用。
 
Health insurance is a condition of employment, with copies of documentation being provided by the teacher on arrival. 1,300RMB will then be paid to the teacher as a contribution towards insurance costs three months into the contract period.
健康保险作为雇佣条件的一项,随外教任职后的第三个月的工资支付,金额为1300元人民币,外教在抵达后应提供该健康保险的复印件。
TRANSPORTATION EXPENSES交通费用
Travel costs to outside locations will be refund in the teacher’s salary if tickets/receipts are submitted by the end of the month.
外教因校外课程的需要所产生的交通费用应于费用发生当月凭车票报销。
 
If teacher teaches at more than one outside location in a day and this location more than 5km from previous outside location, teacher is credited 30 min towards bonus target (80hrs).*
如果一天内外教被安排教授校外合作课程,从校外的第一个点到第二个点之间超过5公里的,学校应补偿算给该外教30分钟课时。
 
*Anomalous cases may be negotiable with the school owner.

A reference letter from a Foreign Teacher

Hello, My name is Carter Alleyne, and I’ d like to write a reference letter regarding our English Schools.

 

Let me start off by saying that I am a Canadian teacher living in Donying, working for our English Schools.  I have been here since May, and have definitely enjoyed myself thus far.  Dongying is in Shangdong province, on the mouth of the Yellow river, about six hours from Beijing by bus.  Much of the economy in Dongying is based on petroleum, and the city is very well-developed, but the cost of living is still quite low.  I've also found it to be really convenient to get around Dongying, either on the bus or by taxi, and high quality goods can be purchased here for much less than in North America.  There is also a very low ratio of foreigners in Dongying, so all the people I've met thus far have been really nice to me.

The staff here are all very friendly to the foreign teachers.  They follow their contracts to the letter, and are willing to help with personal problems as well.  We have a chinese courtesy officer named Alex, and it's his job to ensure that all the foreign teachers needs are provided for, including help with daily life and showing us around town.  I hardly speak any Chinese at all, and have never been to Asia before this, so having him here was a really big help when I first arrived.  The school provides training upon arrival, and has course guides to follow along with class by class, instead of having to plan the curriculum out yourself.  Overall, I'd definitely give this school my highest regards, and I can say that I am glad I decided to come here.
