Sample Contract
Party A (This University ) wishes to engage the services of Party B as an English teacher. The two parties, in the spirit of friendly cooperation, agree as follows:
1. The period of service is fixed for one academic year commencing from ________________ and ending in ______________.
2. The duties of Party B are as follows:
1) Undertaking courses in training teachers, postgraduates and undergraduates courses;
2) Advising students on extra-curricular activities of the language;
3) Minimum teaching workload of 14 hours per week.
3. Party A will pay Party B a monthly salary 3,500 RMB with a probation-period for the first month (If Party A finds out that Party B is unfit for the duties specified in the contract for reasons of health condition, professional ability or adaptation to the environment, etc, it has the right to terminate the contract). Party B will have benefits concerning living conditions according to the regulations (lodging with furniture, kitchen with cooking utensils, bedding, telephone, television, refrigerator, toilet with bath and shower, air-conditioner, broad-band internet access). Party A will provide Party B with an international economy class round-trip air ticket for the shortest distance between China and the country of Party B for 2 semesters employment or over, and a one-way ticket for 1 semester employment when the signed contract has been successfully completed.
4. Party A will pay Party B 50-100 RMB for each overtime class on the basis of the minimum workload of 14 hours. Party B also has legal holidays as stipulated by the Chinese Government (New Year’s Day, Spring Festival, May Day, National Day) and the holidays corresponding to their respective nationalities and religions (two days for Christmas, three days for Corban, one day for Lesser Bairam and one day for Water-splashing Festival). The vacation is fixed by the school calendar. Party B who has completed a one academic year contract is entitled to one-month paid (winter or summer) vacation. Party B will get an extra traveling allowance of 1,100 RMB at the beginning of the next semester.
5. Party A will purchase for Party B medical insurance in accordance with Chinese regulations (accidental injury and chronic disease are exceptions). Party B is advised to receive medical treatment in the hospital appointed by Party A; otherwise, Party B shall cover their own medical expenses. Expenses for registration, transportation for medical care, tooth inlaying, face lifting, massage, glasses, meals in hospital, tonics not for medical purpose, and doctor’s house calls shall be covered by Party B. The medical expenses of the treatment of diseases incurred in Taiwan province, Hong Kong SAR, Macao SAR and places outside China will be covered by Party B during the term of the contract.
6. Party B should advance earnest money RMB 600 to Party A on signing the contract or Party A will take it out of Party B’s first-month salary in case that Party B should damage any facilities for within the apartment. Party A will return it to Party B when the contract is due if no broken facilities are found.
7. Neither party shall terminate this contract without reasonable causes prior to the agreed date of expiration. If Party A finds it imperative to terminate the contract, then in addition to bearing the corresponding expenses for wages and benefits, it must pay Party B a breach penalty of US $ 500 to 2,000, and arrange for Party B to go back to his own country within a month. If Party B submits his resignation in the course of his service, Party A will stop paying his salary from the day when Party A approves the resignation. In this case, Party B will pay Party A a breach penalty of US $ 500 to 2,000. When leaving China, Party B will have to pay for everything by himself.
8. This contract is effective from the date of signature and becomes void upon the expiration of the stipulated period of service.
9. Both parties agree to all the terms in this contract.
10. The contract is written in both Chinese and English, each text being equally authentic.
11. Confirmation and revision of any term of the appendix to the standard contract must be stipulated in written form through friendly negotiation between the two parties. This appendix, being an integral part of the whole contract, has equal validity to the standard contract.

This Institute of Petro-chemical Technology was founded in 1950 in Dalian,Liaoning Province, which was the first petroleum school in China. In 1953,ThisInstitute of Petro-chemical Technology moved to the city of Fushun, Liaoning Province. In March, 2002, under the ratification of the Ministry of Education, the name of the university was changed from Fushun Petroleum Institute into Liaoning University of Petroleum & ChemicalTechnology. It is a state-owned, non-profit making institution of higher education and the first of its kind across China. For the past 52 years since its foundation, ThisInstitute of Petro-chemical Technology has fostered turned out more than 40,000 students for China’petrochemical industry.
This Institute of Petro-chemical Technology covers an area of over 2000 mu, with the building area of 355.000 square meters, and possesses 758.000 volumes of books. The asset totals 0.32 billion yuan, with the teaching and researching instruments worth 70 million RMB. At present, ThisInstitute of Petro-chemical Technology has 12.000 students of different levels (507 graduates, 7277 undergraduates). The working staff exceeds 1450, including 850 teachers. There are 412 professors, associate professors and other technical personnel with senior academic or technical titles,14 doctoral tutors, and 103 master tutors.15 teachers enjoy the State Council Special Allowance,1 teacher has been selected into the 1st、2nd level of talents of the National hundred-thousand-ten thousand talents project,2 teachers have been chosen as national outstanding teachers;11 have been selected into the 1st、2nd level of talents of provincial hundred-thousand-ten thousand talents project,32 teachers have been chosen as provincial or ministerial outstanding experts, disciplinary leaders and outstanding teachers;9 have been chosen as provincial and ministerial model workers. ThisInstitute of Petro-chemical Technology has also engages over 200 part-time professors at home and abroad, including 10 academicians from the Academy of Science of China and the Academy of Engineering of China. The university has 10 majors which have the qualifications for conferring master's degrees, and 3 fields conferring master's degree of engineering. In the university, the on-job students can also apply for their master's degrees. The university has 29 undergraduate majors,10 of which are administered by the state,2 second degree majors and 19 junior degree majors.

The university now has 11 schools and colleges: School of Petrochemical Technology, School of Mechanical Engineering, School of Information Engineering, School of Science, School of Foreign Studies, School of Humanities, School of Physical Education, Shunhua College, Vocational and Technical College and College of Adult Education. In addition, the university has 6 teaching and research centers: Analysis and Testing Research Center, Petrochemical Research and Development Center, Mechanical Research and Development Center, Industrial Control Research and Development Center, NEU(Northeastern University)-Alpine & ThisInstitute of Petro-chemical Technology Research and Development Center, and Computer Center. Chemical Technology, Applied Chemistry and three other specialties are the key disciplines of provincial and ministerial level. The university has the qualifications for enrolling foreign students and sending students to study abroad.

ThisInstitute of Petro-chemical Technology enjoys favorable and high-level teaching and research conditions, with over 2,600 pieces of large or medium-sized advanced instruments and equipment. It also has a high-speed campus network which can be connected with over 2,000 work stations and more than 20 multimedia classrooms (seats totaling 5,900) with advanced apparatus. ThisInstitute of Petro-chemical Technology attaches much importance to the reform of teaching and the improvement of the staff-training programs. In October, 2001, it obtained a good result in Random Quality Evaluation of Undergraduate Course Teaching as the first experimental unit. ThisInstitute of Petro-chemical Technology is of comparatively high level in terms of scientific and research. In the year of 2000, 15 papers were published in "SCIE", ranking 117 in all the colleges and universities in China,23 in "EI", ranking 58,3 in "ISTP", ranking 124,and 175 in journals and magazines of statistics source in China, ranking 149.

On August 21,2001,Lilanqing, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau and vice Premier of the State Council, inspected ThisInstitute of Petro-chemical Technology and expressed his positive comment on the styles of the administration of the university and the achievement made in the previous years. He also pointed out the direction to building a modern university in accordance with the needs of the twenty-first century. In the new century, ThisInstitute of Petro-chemical Technology has set up its grand blueprint: by the end of the Tenth Five-Year Plan, ThisInstitute of Petro-chemical Technology will be developed into a modern petroleum and chemical university, with its own strengths and features, high teaching and research level and competitive power, which has its foothold in Liaoning Province and keeps in view China, serving petroleum and petrochemical industries as well as the local economic and social development.
