This University is located in Linhe District of Bayannaoer City, the center of the rich and beautiful Hetao Plain, to the north of which is Yinshan mountains and to the south the Yellow River. Covering extensive disciplines and comprising regular higher education, vocational education, continuing education, distance education and community education, it is a state-run comprehensive university which aims to cultivate skillful talents of high quality.

Wu Lanfu, the former Vice-President of China, autographed the school name in 1985. The university has 13 colleges and departments – Normal College, Humanities College, Mechanical and Information Engineering College, Civil Engineering College, Agricultural and Biochemical Engineering College, Medical College, Finance and Economics College, Art and Physical Education College, Foreign Languages Department, Comprehensive Department for the Mongolians, Continuing Education College, Distance Education College and Secondary Vocational Schools. The number of the enrolled students now is over 16,000, of which more than 9,000 are full-time students. The university has 429 full-time teachers, among which 275 have the academic title of associate professor or professor, and more than 100 hold double qualification certificates. 40 higher vocational specialties will recruit students in more than ten provinces in 2010. Sticking to“ the employment-oriented and ability-emphasized idea”, the university continually optimizes the educational environment, upgrades the school-running strength and makes efforts to provide better talent and intellectual support for the economic development and social progress. The general guideline of the university in 2010 is as follows: Under the guidance of scientific outlook on development, taking advantage of the opportunity of applying for qualified regular college education and using stabilized scale, quality improvement and harmonious development as its theme, the university should strengthen its inner construction, innovate its talent cultivation pattern, condense its distinguishing features, comprehensively improve its teaching quality and promote its harmonious development through the further emancipation of the minds, deepening of the reforms and renovation of the ideas.
